Karishma & Sean

Dear Expectant Mother,

Hello! We are Sean & Karishma. Thank you for taking the time to read about us. We have been married for nine years and are parents to our almost 3 year old daughter, Reya. We enjoy living in the city of San Francisco with our daughter and cat, Simba.

It has been our dream to adopt a child for many years. We know it takes a community to raise a child and we would love to be a part of the community that raises your child. We promise to love and nurture your baby and provide a warm, welcoming home. We’re sure Reya will be an excellent older sister as well.

About Us - Two Wedding Celebrations

We met in 2010 after both of us relocated to San Francisco. We soon learned we shared a common love for travel, exploration and the outdoors. Two years later we got engaged on a hike in Point Reyes (which we later named our daughter “Reya” after). We officially married in 2012 with two ceremonies – a small one on the shore of Lake Tahoe in Nevada, and then a large one in India with our extended friends and families.

Today we spend our time on fun adventures both local and abroad, with friends and family. On any given weekend we might visit a beach, hike a trail, or walk to the local farmers market.

What Our Friends Say About Us
  • Kind and thoughtful
  • Curious & interested in the world
  • Always up for an adventure
  • Love fun and trying new things
  • Passionate about doing the right thing
Meet Reya

Reya, our daughter, is an easy going, playful and observant child. She is a rule follower and will often remind us “No shoes on the carpet” or “brush teeth”!

When we talk to her about bringing a baby home, she starts preparing for the baby’s arrival by collecting “toys for the baby” – like her blanket, toy bottle, and stuffed toys.

Thoughts About Each Other

Karishma is a caring, loving and generous partner, friend and mother. She loves to help others reach their full potential through deep conversations and acts of kindness and support. Karishma is an organizer and planner, often dreaming up exciting vacation plans and social activities with our friends and their children. As a parent, Karishma is very thoughtful and always looking to provide the best experiences to our daughter by signing her up for classes, introducing new puzzles and toys, and planning fun excursions.

Sean is a strong, thoughtful and creative partner. I can always rely on him for both physical and emotional strength when things get tough. He gives a lot of thought to what makes me happy and tries to incorporate that into our lives. He is very talented artistically – and wows me with his photography and design projects. Recently Sean has taken an interest in cooking so Reya and I get to enjoy wonderful homemade meals and desserts. As a parent, Sean is very patient, attentive and involved. He plays with Reya for hours, carries her in a backpack during our hikes,
and patiently reads books to her before bed.

Our Shared Interests
We are both very fond of travelling and experiencing new cultures. Together, we’ve had a chance to explore Mexico, Spain, Croatia, England, Argentina, India, Thailand and many parts of the US. We love spending time in nature and hiking the trails around San Francisco, and visiting national and state parks. We hope to pass on this love for nature and travel to Reya and our future child. We also both enjoy the mountains all year round. Sean is a snowboarder and he hopes to teach Reya and our future child how to ski the slopes someday.
Our Family

Karishma’s parents and her brother & his family live in India. They too are fond of travel. We try to visit them once a year in India, or meet up with them for a family vacation somewhere. We enjoy Face-timing with them regularly; Reya especially enjoys chatting with her 7 and 9 year old cousins.

Sean’s parents live in Pittsburgh, PA and his sister and niece live in Denver, CO. We see them a few times a year, typically to celebrate a holiday like Thanksgiving and Christmas, with lots of family traditions we look forward to.

We are blessed to have many friends in San Francisco that have become like close family. We have celebrated many holidays with them, travelled with them, and have enjoyed raising Reya with them and their children.

Our Hopes for Our Children

Our hope is to provide our children with a loving, fun, safe and stimulated childhood. We want them to grow up to be kind, resilient and confident adults.

By loving them unconditionally, we hope to give them the strength and resilience to take on life’s challenges. By taking care of them and others in our community, we hope to serve as role models, teaching them to be kind and honest to each other and those around them.

We know our children will grow surrounded by connections with each other, our extended community, and birth family.

The Furry Member of Our Family
Simba, our pet Bengal cat is 7 years old. While it is a little unusual to walk cats, we occasionally take her out for walks on a leash to the park or the beach. She has gone on trips with us as well – including taking flights to Pittsburgh and LA. She is playful, friendly, and very patient (evident by allowing Reya to tug on her tail)!
