Dear Expectant Mother,
Hello! We’re Gretchen and Dan and we live in San Francisco, California. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us and consider us as adoptive parents. We admire the decision you are making. We both grew up here in the San Francisco Bay Area, surrounded by our loving families. We are ready and eager to welcome a child into our family.
How We Like To Spend Our Time:
- Seeing a live play or musical
- Cooking a delicious dinner together
- Going for a walk or playing tennis
- Snuggling on the couch watching our favorite shows
- Hanging out with family & friends
We are both from the Bay Area, but we met in 2007 when we both spent the summer working at the Weston Playhouse in Vermont. Our first “real” date was on New Year’s Eve 2008, and we’ve been together ever since. We both love theater, particularly musicals, and feel blessed to have built successful careers in this field. After college, Dan worked as a pianist and music director in New York City. Gretchen, a theater manager and producer, went to New York after grad school and soon moved in with Dan. In 2014 Gretchen landed a job at San Francisco’s most prestigious theater company, which allowed us to return home and be closer to our families. We were married in 2015.
We are a fun-loving and playful couple. We have a loving and respectful relationship built on honesty and responsibility. Our life together includes walks in Golden Gate Park, tennis, live theater, trivia nights with friends, baseball games, visits with our families, and relaxing at home together.
We always wanted to be parents, and we are ready for that joy and responsibility. We are excited to introduce our child to music, dance, theater, and visual arts. We look forward to reading and other fun educational activities, as well as sports and recreation.
Our Family & Friends
Gretchen’s mom lives in a nearby town, and they talk almost every day. Gretchen’s dad also lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. Gretchen’s younger sister lives in Argentina with her husband and two children. They visit California every summer to spend time with family. Dan’s parents and two younger brothers live just a few miles from us. We see our family regularly for dinners or other activities.
Gretchen’s best friends from high school are like her sisters. We spend time with them and their families whenever we can. Dan has close friends here in San Francisco and in New York. We cherish our friends and we’re so lucky to have them in our lives.
About Gretchen, by Dan
Gretchen is sweet, caring, and always positive. She treats everyone around her with kindness and a sunny energy that makes everybody like her. Her commitment to positivity and goodness inspires me to be a better person and husband.
While raised in the Bay Area, Gretchen attended college in Vermont, earned a Masters degree in Arts Administration, and achieved great success in New York City theater. She now oversees the company that brings touring Broadway shows to San Jose. In her spare time she enjoys going to the gym, listening to audiobooks, and hanging out with family and friends.
Gretchen loves our niece and nephew more than anything. She cooks fun meals with them, takes them to museums, and reads to them at bedtime. She especially loves arts and crafts projects with them. She can’t wait to devote her love and energy to the most important job of parenting a child, and I know she is going to be the best mother ever.
About Dan, by Gretchen
Dan is the most kind and respectful man I’ve ever met. He has a big heart, and is very even-tempered, rarely getting upset. Dan is also one of the smartest people I know. He is the perfect teammate for parenting.
Dan is one of the most sought-after music directors in the Bay Area. During his leisure time, Dan solves lots of crossword puzzles, and has won the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament a record eight times. Dan loves taking long walks to explore different areas of San Francisco, listening to podcasts, reading about politics and entertainment, and following sports.
I know Dan will be an awesome Dad. He is a wonderful uncle to our 6-year-old niece and 7-year-old nephew. They all love playing soccer and basketball in the park, learning to solve puzzles, and playing card games together. Dan’s love for them shows me what a great parent he will be.
Our Parenting Values
We will provide our child with a loving and supportive home, with the values that we learned in our own families. We will offer him or her a strong and diverse education as well as enriching activities, from arts to sports to technology. We will share family traditions like summer camp, holiday crafts, and outdoor activities. We plan to travel to Argentina to visit family there, and take trips to New York, Vermont, Lake Tahoe, and other special places. We wish to build our child a strong foundation to help him or her grow into an active, healthy adult.
We live in a large and light-filled apartment in San Francisco, with a backyard with flowers and fruit trees. Our neighborhood is family-friendly, with schools, parks, shops and restaurants within walking distance of our home. Our home is close to all the wonderful things San Francisco has to offer, and we can’t wait to share them with our child.
