Dear Expectant Mother,
We recognize that adoption comes from a place of love, and that this is not an easy decision to make. We want you to know how grateful we are that you are taking the time to learn a bit about us and how excited we are to bring a child into our life. We would love the opportunity to connect with you to answer any questions you may have about us and to learn about your hopes and dreams for your child, and how we can be a part of that.
What We Love:
- Hiking, camping & being outdoors
- Travel, both domestically & abroad
- Playing with our dogs & taking them to beaches & parks
- Running—finding new trails to blaze
- Exploring new cities
- Learning to surf as a couple
- Baking & cooking—& taste-testing the results!
- To laugh, joke & be silly
We met in San Francisco in 2016 and we both immediately felt how easy it was to be with one another. On our first date, we walked along the beach until the sun went down. That night we learned that we both went to college in Chicago at the same time, and talked about our memories of all the places we both had been. We find comfort, stability, and a feeling of being at home in our relationship. Laughing together is something we really cherish, and we’re excited to bring a child into that joyfulness we feel around one another.
We have two awesome, friendly dogs, Maser and Oscar. On the weekends, we love being outside with them—hiking, camping, and running on the roads or trails. We love to travel and have explored the mountains in Patagonia, Argentina, scaled Half Dome in Yosemite, hiked the Spanish/French Pyrenees and surfed in Spain. We can’t wait to introduce our child to other adventures when he or she is ready.
Our Family & Friends
Both of us moved out to California separately several years ago to be closer to family and enjoy being close to nature which the Bay Area provides. We both have siblings who live nearby and we regularly visit with our nieces and two-year-old nephew.
Emily P. grew up in a small town in Connecticut, where her parents still live. Emily M. also grew up in a small town, but in Illinois. Her parents still live in the Midwest. Our family and friends will be a big part of raising our child and creating a supportive community for him or her. Our parents visit California multiple times a year. They are very excited about us adopting a child, and we’re hoping they will all make the move to California to be closer.
About Emily M. (by Emily P.)
After first meeting Emily, I remember sending a text to my friend saying, “I just went on the best date ever.” Being with Emily feels easy and natural. She sparks a sense of curiosity in me and I always feel so taken care of when I’m with her.
Emily has a PhD in Astrophysics and now works as a software engineer for a tech company. She is one of the smartest and hardest-working people I know. I deeply admire her. Running has always been a passion of Emily’s—she ran competitively in high school and college. She also bikes on the roads and trails by our house, an activity we love to share. Emily is also an amazing cook and I especially enjoy taste-testing her delicious breads and sweets.
I love watching Emily with our nieces and nephews—it brings out her own playful and joyful nature. When we call our nephew he is always asking where his Auntie E is. I know she is going to be a thoughtful, sensitive and nurturing Mom.
About Emily P. (by Emily M.)
Emily is the most patient, loving, and empathetic person I’ve ever known. She makes me and everyone around her feel seen, heard, and cared for. She has a fun side too—we laugh a lot, make up silly songs, and dance around our house.
Emily’s caring nature is reflected in her career choice. She put herself through grad school to become a clinical therapist, and she now has a successful practice helping clients ranging from kids to adults. Along with our shared outdoor adventures, Emily really cherishes spending her free time with her close group of friends. It has been awesome to be welcomed and included into their circle of support.
Emily loves kids and has always felt that adoption would be part of her life. It’s so fun to watch her play with our nieces and nephews—whether that’s rolling on the floor or exploring a video game with them. She will make sure our child has adventures and wonder, and she will always let them know they are loved and heard.
We live in a beautiful, family-friendly neighborhood in San Francisco. Our home is light-filled, with lots of plants, books, and our two sweet little dogs. We know everyone in our building and it truly feels like a community. We both really appreciate living in San Francisco—taking walks around our neighborhood, walking the trails of Golden Gate Park (which is nearby), or biking to the beach. We feel really grateful to be so close to nature and at the same time have access to a world-class city, and want to share this amazing place with our child.
Our Parenting Values
We will nourish our child with unconditional love, and support whatever path he or she might choose in life. Learning is something we both value. We wish to encourage our child’s exploration and curiosity, and to support our child in receiving an education that meets his or her own needs and interests, including going to college if he or she wants to.
Becoming parents is something we’ve both always wanted, and adoption has been a natural path for us. We are so excited to raise our child in a family that is open, loving, accepting, and filled with a sense of adventure.
We are so grateful you took the time to consider us. We know this isn’t an easy decision to make so we are happy to answer any other questions you might have about us.
