Dear Expectant Mother,
Hello! We are David and Matt from Palo Alto, south of San Francisco in the Bay Area. Thank you so much for allowing us to share some of our story with you. We have been together for almost ten years, and have always wanted to become parents. We are ready to provide a child with all the love, support, and opportunities he or she needs to thrive in life. We can promise you that your child will be deeply loved and cared for.
A Few Things About Us:
- We are both educators: David a college professor & Matt a middle school administrator.
- We are very close with our families.
- We have a wonderful group of friends, many of whom are new parents as well.
- We are avid readers & are excited to read with our child.
- We love being outdoors—hiking, running, & swimming together.
We met in New York City in 2010 and hit it off on our first date. We connected over our shared love of reading, running, and our passion for education. We knew we had found something special right away. In 2014, we got married in front of our amazing family and friends. We are now Californians, living in the Bay Area.
We are fortunate that our jobs as educators are flexible, so we can devote a lot of time to our child. Matt currently works part-time and David has flexibility with his work hours. We both have summers off. We love to travel, and we visit both our families back East several time a year. We enjoy visiting the beach to relax and swim—we look forward to sharing all these adventures with our child.
We are so excited to have a child. David is a wonderful cook, and is looking forward to cooking for a little one. Matt is especially eager to explore books with our child. Matt grew up Episcopalian, David grew up Catholic, and we plan to raise our child in a warm faith community. Our parents and siblings are so excited to be grandparents, aunts, and uncles to our child, and they will be a big part of our child’s life.
About David, by Matt
David is originally from Boston. When we met, he was in graduate school at Princeton University in New Jersey. David loves his job as a college professor, and he also enjoys his time off to explore his hobbies like cooking, traveling, hiking, and running.
David is calm, patient, kind, and loyal. He makes friends easily, and shows care in so many ways. He is great at bringing people together over food. If any of our friends, family, or one of his students is struggling, he’s always there to help. He is wonderful with our nephews and our goddaughter. He will be a natural as a father.
About Matt, by David
Education is deeply important to Matt. He was the first person in his family to finish college at a small Quaker school in North Carolina. Now a dedicated educator, Matt is incredible with his students—from kindergarteners through middle schoolers—helping them at every turn with whatever issues they encounter.
Matt is funny, compassionate, thoughtful, and loving. He is powerfully loyal and will always
offer support to those around him, whether that be his family and friends or his students. He takes the ups and downs of life in stride and will make you laugh when you least expect it. He is an avid reader and runner—he’s killer on steep hills! He has also been a car enthusiast since he was a kid. He is an uncle extraordinaire and will be an amazing father.
Our Family & Friends
Our family and friends mean the world to us. David’s family lives in Boston, Massachusetts. His parents instilled in him the values of caring for others and being kind no matter what. David has one brother who lives with his wife and son in Boston.
Matt grew up in a warm and caring home with his parents and sister in Nashville, Tennessee, where they still live. Our two adorable nephews and goddaughter bring us endless laughter and joy. We are excited for our child to have this amazing set of cousins.
Our friends are our chosen family. Whether it’s catching up over David’s delicious lasagna, watching a romantic comedy, or hiking among the redwood trees, we are smiling with the amazing community of friends in our lives. Our village is warm, welcoming, and ready to wrap our child in their love.
Our Home & Community
We love living in Palo Alto. We live in a warm and welcoming three bedroom home, and our neighborhood is full of young children and good friends. We are excited to take our child to the playground, pool, and park that are in our neighborhood. There is also a great children’s library nearby that we plan to visit every week. Most importantly, Palo Alto has amazing schools. We look forward to being able to walk with our child to the elementary school in our neighborhood.
As educators, we are excited to introduce our child to life-long learning and encourage a curiosity about the world. We know that children learn best through experiencing the world. We are excited to introduce our child to museums, to travel, and all the different experiences that will allow our child to grow into the best version of him or herself.
We both come from families that are very loving and supportive, and have instilled in us the value of being ourselves and caring for others. We imagine having dinner together as a family every night, hosting Sunday dinners with family and friends, and spending holidays with our families. We share gratitude with each other every day, and we are excited to share that with our child.
