Dear Expectant Mother,
We are Shannon & Majett and there is nothing we want more than to share our life and love with a child. Both of our families have been touched by adoption and the unconditional love that came with it. Both of us have cousins who were adopted, both from the foster care system and by private adoption. Our cousins are close to our ages and we have all always loved and embraced one another. Our cousins are more than happy to be resources for us and our child once we adopt. Shannon’s parents welcomed over 10 foster children into their home when she was growing up. It was a lesson in unconditional love, which is truly the sharing of oneself without the expectation of anything in return.
Our parents, many siblings, 10 nieces and nephews and extended family and friends are excitedly waiting to welcome, love and support the newest addition to our family.
We attended the same church and after a mutual friend encouraged Majett to ask Shannon on a date the rest was history. We share many things in common, but our different personalities create a balanced team. Majett tends to be the visionary in the family thinking outside of the box and creatively, while Shannon brings a perspective that is practical and action oriented. We are committed to being parents that teach, nurture, and love our child unconditionally. We hope to nurture a positive self-identity in our child and while adoption won’t be the only thing that defines him or her, it will be highly regarded and discussed openly.
As Parents We Will…
Share the power of family and surround the child we welcome with the love of our immediate and extended family which includes several generations
Read many books, as we want to share our passion for learning and expose him/her to a variety of topics such as music, science, history, sports, in hopes he/she will become well rounded
Model a positive spiritual life in hopes that our child will also become a spiritual person that strives for his/her higher self
Share how to love all people and thrive in diverse settings although first we will teach him/her how to love them self
Expose him/her to positive role models that share the same ethnic background in an effort to build a positive self-identity.
We will read about his/her ancestors and visit museums that tell the historical stories. We will work to find the best schools that support these efforts
We were both fortunate to grow up in loving families and have always been able to depend on them for support.
They’re excited to share that same love, joy and support with the child we welcome!
“Shannon is a caretaker for her extended family, and I have no doubt that she will be an amazing mom. She makes our house a home with home cooked meals, family gatherings, warm hospitality and a beautiful smile.”–Majett
Shannon earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work and established a career in non-profit management and as a community college professor Shannon is passionate about working with first generation college students from under-resourced communities.
“One of Shannon’s fondest childhood memories is making homemade cookies for family and friends every Christmas and packaged them in hand decorated jars with her mother. She loves the tradition because it taught her about the value of gifting something from the heart.
Shannon is excited to continue this tradition with our own child, and I can’t wait to see them together for these precious holiday traditions.
Shannon also loves Zumba & dancing, and I know she is excited to share her love of music and dancing with our child.” –Majett
After graduating high school Majett won a football scholarship to a prestigious university and the game of football continues to be his Passion. Majett has a successful career in the cable industry, but in his spare time, he coaches high school football and recently started a foundation that helps youth identify athletic scholarships to pay for College.
“Majett believes fatherhood is his most important job on earth and he will become our child’s greatest protector in the world. Our son or daughter will inevitably steal his heart and I can’t imagine a greater love.” -Shannon
“I so admire Majett’s dedication to the kids on his football team and I know this is one of the traits that will make him a fantastic father. During the off season, he enjoys gardening, cooking on the grill and watching the history channel so it should be no surprise that he earned a Bachelor’s degree in history. And during family vacations you can always find him in the water, swimming with the fish! I know his dedication to family, diverse interests and passions will enrich the life of the child we welcome!” -Shannon
Our Home & Community
We recently bought a new home in a diverse community with children and families in anticipation of our growing family. Deer and horses also live in the neighborhood giving the area a touch of nature.
We frequent our local farmer’s market most weekends to take advantage of the fresh fruits and veggies and to connect with members of our community. Our child will have nature and healthful living close at hand.
We appreciate your getting to know a bit about us and the life and love we hope to share with a child.
We eagerly await a chance to become parents and would love to hear from you about what your hopes and dreams are for your child, and to get to know you in a way that is comfortable for you.
