Melina & Jordan

Dear Expectant Mother,

Hello from Petaluma! We are Jordan and Melina and we appreciate this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you. We hope that as you get to know us you see the love we have for each other, our family and our future child.

We’ve been together for over 14 years and married since 2011. We’ve always known we wanted to be parents, and the challenges in trying to start a family have brought us closer together, while opening our eyes and hearts to adoption. We couldn’t be more excited to start our family.

Top Things We Enjoy Doing Together:

  • Hiking
  • Riding our Vespa around town
  • Home improvement projects
  • Walks with our dog, Foxy Brown
  • Traveling and exploring different countries and cultures
  • Naps
  • Road Trips
  • Cooking and Eating, but mostly eating
  • Watching Movies
  • Seeking new experiences (we value experiences over things)
We love to celebrate birthdays with our niece and nephew

About Us

We met freshmen year at Chico State and formed a friendship that lasted throughout college. Our friendship grew into a relationship at a distance through graduate school and new jobs. We are a very lighthearted couple who enjoy setting goals and tackling challenges together. Our relationship is deeply rooted in friendship—we are each other’s best friend and chosen family.

Whether it is running a half marathon together, helping one another through graduate school, or completing home improvement projects together, we have found that the sum of us is greater than our parts. We can’t wait for the opportunity to share our commitment and love with a child.

About Jordan, by Melina

Jordan is the kindest, most honest and trustworthy person I know.  He is always seeking ways to be better and do better. He has a great sense of humor and never takes himself too seriously. He’s thoughtful, nurturing, and patient. He’s steadfast in what he believes and always puts his family first. In his profession as a pediatric occupational therapist, Jordan provides therapy to children with challenges, helping them to meet their developmental milestones. At home, Jordan enjoys building things with his hands and has made many furniture pieces for our home. I love watching him play with our niece and nephew. The kids especially enjoy building robots with Tio Jordan.  He’s the best person I know and I am certain that he will be an amazing father.

Never too old for Christmas jammies!

About Melina, by Jordan

Melina is a loving and caring person, with an infectious sense of humor. She is sweet, and thoughtful, and family is the most important thing to her. Melina is an elementary school teacher. She has a great passion for helping students find their own voice through writing. For leisure, she enjoys hiking, doing yoga, reading, and journaling. When our niece and nephew visit she finds fun activities to share like reading, dancing to music, and doing arts and crafts. As a mother, she will pass on to our child the love for the outdoors, the joy of expressing ones self through writing, and the fulfillment of exploring his or her own world. I know she will help our child find his or her own voice in the world.

Our Family & Friends

We are lucky to live close to our family. Both of our parents are thrilled to become grandparents and are already making plans to spoil their future grandbaby.

We love our close relationship with Melina’s siblings

Melina comes from a large Mexican-American family, who gather often with lots of food, music and dancing. We enjoy yearly trips to Lake Tahoe with Melina’s parents, her two sisters, brother and their families. We have a close relationship with our niece and nephew and enjoy taking them out for adventures.

Jordan’s family lives about four hours away in the central Valley of California, and we keep in contact through weekly phone conversations and visits, usually during the holidays. We enjoy annual family vacations to places like San Diego with Jordan’s Mom and brother.

Home

We live in Petaluma, California, which is 40 miles north of San Francisco. Petaluma is a lovely, safe and family-oriented community with lots of open space. We have a 3-bedroom home with a big back yard, which has an open, grassy area to run or ride bikes and a large outdoor table, built by Jordan, to accommodate our extended family gatherings. We bought this house intending to start our family and have been renovating it since. We live down the street from our best friends who are expecting a baby and minutes away from my sister who has two children. So our child will have many playmates.

Our home

Our other family member is our 6-year-old Pomeranian, Foxy Brown. Our niece and nephew love to play with her whenever they come over.  Whether we are out on a hike, or having relaxing day at home she’s our constant companion.

Our Values as Parents

We wish to raise a child who is kind, confident, curious and independent. We want our child to know that his or her potential is limitless, and through hard work he or she can achieve anything. We both value education deeply, and wish to foster a love of learning in our children. It’s important to us to teach our child to be kind to others and respectful of differences. We know that the best way to do this is through example. Jordan can’t wait to read bedtime stories with our little one. Melina looks forward to getting crafty together. We both look forward to family dinners at the table, weekend hikes, summer road trips, and lots and lots of love and laughter.
