Dear Expectant Mother,
We are Beto and Cassandra. We are a down-to-earth couple from Woodland, California, twenty minutes from the heart of Sacramento. We want you to know how deeply thankful we are that you’re reading our letter. Adoption is a very personal decision and we have the utmost respect and admiration for you.
We are happy and excited to have found a path to parenthood through adoption.
We have so much love to give a child and look forward to welcoming a baby into our home and life. It’s our hope that our letter will allow you to get to know us a little better, and that you will consider reaching out to us so we can learn more about your hopes, concerns and dreams for your child.
We were introduced by a mutual friend in 2005. We had an instant connection which developed into a close friendship. In 2010, when the timing was right, we went on our first “official” date. We have been together ever since and just celebrated our four-year wedding anniversary.
We are an active couple. On weekends we can be found riding bikes or standing side by side in “tree” pose in yoga class. We are lucky enough to live close to (kid-friendly) foot and bike trails and enjoy taking our 8-year-old lab mix, Guinness, on day hikes. We enjoy relaxing on long weekend trips to beautiful San Diego, Portland and Monterey. Family is very important to us, and we will often have our family and friends over for dinner and a “game night.”
We look forward to summertime each year when we pack up our travel trailer and head to the mountains for a week. Beto loves to fish and is excited to teach our child how to cast a pole. Cassandra will be on the sidelines taking tons of photos. We would love to share those photos with you, if you are open to it. On really hot days you can find us hanging out in our pool. Our friends bring their kids over to swim and eat Beto’s “famous” BBQ chicken. We look forward to taking our child to swim lessons so he or she can enjoy family pool time.
We are excited to teach our child Spanish. Beto is fluent in the language and Cassandra continues to learn. She took a Spanish course at a junior college two years ago and continues to work on her vocabulary. We feel it’s a significant advantage in today’s world, and we plan for our child to experience all the richness and learning that comes from getting to know different cultures and people.
About Cassandra, by Beto
Cassandra has a very loving heart and that’s what made me fall in love with her. She’s funny, caring and responsible. Her strength and resilience during life’s hard times inspires me. She likes structure, which balances out my laid-back personality.
Cassandra grew up in Woodland, California and is the youngest of three children. Acting in plays and movies that her sister wrote and directed was a fun activity that inspired her creative mind growing up. She’s a social butterfly by nature and enjoys interacting with people. She will be the mom who always volunteers to help out in our child’s classroom. Cassandra earned a BA in Sociology but found herself interested in environmental protection. She likes working with the public and educating them on health hazards and how to remain safe. Her workplace is very supportive of her plans to adopt and she looks forward to the day she embraces her new adventure as a stay-at-home mom.
She has a passion for interior design. When we purchased our home it needed updating and she has thoroughly enjoyed picking out new flooring, furniture and paint colors. She is always trying to learn new things and recently took a course in sign language. She’s excited to teach our child signs like “done” and “more” to build communication.
Her two older sisters are twins and currently live in Los Angeles. She has a nephew, Kieran, 2 years old, and a niece, Rhea, 2 months old. She loves when they visit “Tia C,” and between visits she stays in touch through FaceTime. Cassandra’s parents live just a short drive away, and they are both very excited to be involved in our child’s life. Our child will have many grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins to surround him or her with love.
About Beto, by Cassandra
Beto is the love of my life. He is the most loving, nurturing and loyal person I know. He grew up on a vineyard in a small farming town right outside of Woodland and is the oldest of three brothers, all of whom still live close by and see each other on a regular basis. He has fond memories of playing in the vineyard from dawn to dusk. Being raised by a single mother most his life (his Dad passed away when he was nine), he learned that having faith in yourself and your family will get you through even the hardest times. He cares deeply about his family and friends, and he’s the first person to lend his help to someone in need.
Beto left home for college, then upon returning, worked for a construction company. Today, Beto works for a local gas and electric company as an equipment operator. His work is flexible so he’ll be able to be involved in all the activities our child participates in.
Beto is a jack of all trades. He loves working on his ‘59 Chevy Biscayne, and building custom furniture out of reclaimed wood. He installed the new flooring in our house, and designed a custom metal art piece for his friend’s office building. When our child is old enough, he looks forward to teaching him or her how to use these kinds of skills to make really fun projects.
We have a 1-year-old niece, Amelia, and a nephew on the way in 2018, among several other nieces and nephews and five godsons in Beto’s family. So our child will have many children to grow up around. Beto is amazingly patient and always gives kids his undivided attention. I know he will be the most loving and attentive father and role model to our child.
Our Home & Community
We purchased a home in a family-friendly neighborhood that is full of children of all ages. We have three bedrooms, and are making two into a nursery and playroom. The nursery looks out onto the back patio with a view of the garden and lots of natural light. Cassandra will enjoy using her interior design skills to make it a warm, cozy space. We have a good-sized front lawn and a backyard with a fenced pool.
We chose this area for the excellent school system and the fact that it was within walking distance to Fern park, which features a water play area. Our community has many kid-friendly events during the year which we love to attend, including Food Truck Mania, the Almond Festival and the Whole Earth Festival. We look forward to buying a season pass to the Sacramento Zoo, sharing with our child reading time at the local library, picking fruits at the farmer’s market, and playing at the children’s museum that is opening soon downtown.
Our Values on Parenting
We want to pass on the invaluable traits and life lessons our parents taught us: A quality education, manners, and respect for all living things. Most importantly, we want to teach our child to be kind to others and to express him or herself. Our love for our child will be unconditional, and we will encourage our child to live his or her best possible life, and always be true to him or herself.
We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to adopt. We promise to give your child a loving, supportive and stable home. We will teach our child about his or her beginnings, and about who you are, if you wish to share that information. You will always be talked about with respect in our discussions.
