Dear Expectant Mother,
HELLO! We are Charlie and Danielle, otherwise known as Chuck and Dee. We live in the East San Francisco Bay Area, where Danielle was born and raised, and Charlie moved to from England. We are a fun loving, happy, healthy couple who are very excited to bring a child into our lives and home. We truly admire your courage in making this decision and would feel honored should you consider us. We know this letter will only give you a brief snapshot of our lives, so we hope we have an opportunity to speak with you, answer your questions, and discover your hopes and dreams for your child.
Our Life Together
We met in the fall of 2005, when Danielle went to a museum opening in San Francisco and saw Charlie and his jazz/funk band performing. Danielle had heard about Charlie from multiple friends who had been trying to get them to meet and the time had finally come. Danielle was immediately smitten with Charlie in all his black turtleneck glory and ended up talking to him all night—Charlie was also interested! Fast forward about a year and we decided to get engaged. We were married in 2007 surrounded by our friends and family.
Over the past ten years, Charlie and I have eaten our way through Italy, France, Hong Kong and most recently Thailand, laughed at more than a few comedy clubs, and attempted to camp at many national parks throughout California. We cannot wait to share the same joy for life with our child and continue to go on fun, insightful and exciting adventures, in our own neighborhood and around the world.
When we are home we enjoy cooking homemade pasta using Danielle’s Italian Grandma Mae’s old pasta machine, or anything on the grill. We enjoy listening to jazz, funk and soul records, watching movies and taking our very cute dog, Millie, out for long hikes in all the amazing parks in the Oakland and Berkeley Hills. A typical weekend involves spending time with Danielle’s parents, who live nearby, or digging up home treasures at a local store, and at the end of the day attempting to cook new and exciting dishes.
Meet Danielle, by Charlie
Danielle is the love of my life. From the first time that I met her, she has been a constant source of surprise and joy. She has a wonderful sense of humor, and always has a smile on her face. She is the most compassionate and sensitive person I’ve ever met and she is always there for me when I need support. She is an amazing cook and we spend many hours together in the kitchen—she even mastered making Yorkshire Pudding (a dish from my childhood in England).
Danielle has a big extended family and although she is an only child, her childhood was filled with family and friends whom she went camping and fishing with when she was a kid. Growing up she loved playing softball. Along with her love of sports, she volunteered with local animal shelters and food banks. She has such a big heart. Our child will be showered with love and an appreciation for giving to others.
Danielle went to San Francisco State and studied Media Management, and went on to a career in advertising sales. She is currently a senior account executive at LinkedIn, where she works on exciting social media campaigns for tech companies like Amazon and Intel. Her career will allow her to work from home part time while her Mom, Pam, will also be able to be very involved in caring for our child, as she lives close by.
I can’t think of anyone who would be a more nurturing or loving parent than Danielle. I can’t wait to see her lively, fun, caring personality shine though with our child. Without fail, kids always seem to gravitate to her as she makes sure they are always having fun and living life to the fullest.
Meet Charlie, by Danielle
I fell in love with Charlie almost the second I met him—his smile and laugh and openness were just infectious. He is always learning, and in turn, enables me to always learn as well. I know I can count on Charlie to be there for me when I need him most, and to bring a smile to my face when I need it most.
Charlie was raised in a small town outside of London called Weybridge. He and his cousins used to go fishing, ride bikes and enjoy the beauty of the English countryside. He went to the London College of Furniture Design, and while there, he started a band. When he graduated he had the opportunity to play bass with the band and travel the world, so he jumped at it. This eventually led to Charlie starting his own record label making jazz, funk, soul and hip-hop music. While he still produces music, he wanted to make a impact in a different way and has been working in the solar energy field for the past ten years.
When Charlie isn’t making music, he enjoys skiing, riding his mountain bike and being the first person at the dog park with Millie. He also enjoys making beautiful things with his hands—he built our dining room and coffee tables.
Charlie’s ability to connect with every child he meets is one of his best qualities, with his contagious laugh and his “funny voice” as some kids like to call it. He will make the most amazing dad, and I can’t wait to see him share his love and enthusiasm for life with our child.
Our Family & Friends
We have a huge network of both family and friends here in the San Francisco Bay Area as well as in England that are all very excited to be a part of our child’s life. Locally, we have a diverse group of friends from all walks of life with whom we enjoy sharing meals, events and vacations together.
Danielle’s parents separated when she was very young but soon found their true loves and have both been married for 34+ years. Danielle’s mom, Pam, and step-dad Chris, live near us, where Danielle grew up. Danielle’s dad, John, and step-mom, Sue, live in Washington State where her half-sister Karen also lives. Danielle also has four other half-brothers and sisters who all live under an hour’s drive from us.
Charlie’s mother Carol, and her husband, Steve, live in Surrey, England, while his father, David, spends the majority of his time in Northern France. We enjoy trips to see family and to experience other cultures. Charlie’s brother, Al, is also in England with his family, and comes to visit regularly. Charlie is also godfather to his best friend’s two kids in Devon, England. We visit England at least once a year and look forward to continuing the tradition with our child.
We live in Lafayette, CA, a lovely rural community in the East San Francisco Bay Area. Our house is a 4-bedroom mid-century modern house with a big backyard and tons of trees. We are so excited to start our first garden and plant tomatoes, corn, herbs and lots of pretty flowers! Our house is in a safe, diverse, family-friendly neighborhood right next to parks, playgrounds, and a cute downtown. Lafayette is considered to have one of the best school districts in all of California, which is one of the main reasons we moved here. We cannot wait to take our child to the local children’s park called Fairyland, the Oakland Zoo and on long afternoon walks at the numerous parks nearby.
We have an amazing dog who will be a wonderful companion to our little one. Millie Mae is a rescue dog who makes friends with every single person she meets and especially loves kids and other dogs.
Family is incredibly important to us, and we have always wanted to have children to share our love of life and adventure with. When we discovered we could not have children biologically, adoption became a natural choice and we couldn’t be more excited by this next chapter in our lives. We believe in supporting and encouraging our child to live life to the fullest, to take advantage of everything the world has to offer. Growing up, we both had families that inspired us to follow our dreams and we can’t wait to do the same for our child.
We will provide a foundation of love, honesty and communication for our child’s life and believe in education as the stepping point in achieving one’s dreams. Our parents both raised us to be honest and compassionate to those around us which is how we plan to raise our child as well.
Thank you so much for considering our family in what we know is a truly difficult decision.
