We are Brenton and Adina from Alberta, Canada, and we are so thankful that you are taking the time to get to know us through this letter. We wish we could express how much we admire you and your choice in choosing adoption for your child. We hope that you may find courage and strength in this process. We would appreciate the opportunity to get to know more about you and your hopes and dreams for your child, and answer any questions you may have about us.
We are a happy, loving couple who live in beautiful Northern Alberta, which is a province in Canada north of Montana. We are thrilled to welcome a child into our lives and want you to know that we have hearts full of love to offer this child.
We met in high school through mutual friends and started dating long distance when Brenton played hockey competitively 400 miles away. We knew when we met that we wanted to be in each other’s lives. We enjoyed doing many outdoor activities such as beach volleyball at our local beach and playing hockey at the outdoor rink, or just watching movies together, playing card games and getting together with friends. We still love doing all these activities together now. We got married on a chilly winter’s day in December of 2012.
We also love to travel. We went to the Dominican Republic with Brenton’s family to visit a friend who lived with his family as an exchange student from Brazil. We also rented a houseboat with Brenton’s family, and toured a lake in the Canadian Rockies. With Adina’s family we do an annual fishing and camping trip on a beautiful lake near us.
We are so excited to share our lives with a child and introduce him or her to our love of travel and all the variety of activities we enjoy, while exploring all the new things our child finds interesting as well.
Brenton by Adina
Brenton is kind, patient and always takes time to listen to people. He is extremely hard working and gives himself completely and whole-heartedly to all he does. He has two sisters who are 17 and 20 years older, so he was a bit of a surprise to everyone when he was born! Brenton’s main caregiver was his dad, who had health issues, so he was unable to work, but spent lots of time with Brenton (he passed away when Brenton was 11). He is close to his mom, who has been a high school librarian for the last 35 years.
Brenton attended college to get a journeyman certificate in carpentry. He started his own carpentry company at the age of 21 and co-owns it with a partner, and they specialize in building residential homes. He enjoys hobbies like hockey and researching new house plans.
Brenton is a natural athlete and he enjoys playing all sports. He loves spending time at the skating rink in the winter, camping at the local ferry campground, and fishing on the Peace River which is only a short drive from our home. He is excited to share his hobbies with our child.
Children are naturally drawn to Brenton’s playful, gentle nature. I’m so excited to see him become a father and watch the special bond grow that I know he will have with our child. I have no doubt he will be an amazing father.
Adina by Brenton
Adina is the love of my life. I have never met a more caring, genuine person. She is a beautiful woman inside and out. She is always selfless with me and I know this is how she will be with our child.
Growing up on a farm with four older brothers and two younger brothers, every day was an adventure. The siblings were always outdoors building treehouses or skating on an outdoor rink. The local school only had 200 kids from Elementary to Junior High, so everyone knew everybody which created a really tight-knit community. Adina’s family is very close and enjoy getting together regularly.
Adina has a hair salon in our home where she works part-time. She is passionate about her work and loves making people feel beautiful and loved. Hair styling and creating new makeup looks is one of her favorite hobbies along with sharing good times with her friends. She enjoys being active; she plays club volleyball as well as all the outdoor activities and sports we share together. She also loves caring for our home, and she is an amazing cook (she makes the best mushroom pork tenderloin and sweet potato fries!)
People are naturally drawn to Adina, and enjoy her funny, entertaining personality. Adina loves children and they love her too. We share 25 nieces and nephews together and spend time with them regularly. I know she will be a loving, nurturing mother to our child and I am so excited to take on this journey with her.
We are so blessed to have both families living nearby, and all our siblings have established roots in our hometown and work within our small community. Our parents have taught us values rooted in God and respect for everyone we meet. Our family attends church together weekly. Brenton’s mom cooks a five-course lunch for us after church every Sunday afternoon.
We have family gatherings multiple times a year which include our extended families as well. Our get-togethers are always filled with good food, games and lots of laughter. On Christmas Eve we all get to together for a huge turkey dinner at Adina’s parents’ home. Mom carves the turkey and all the sisters help with the trimmings. We always do a Christmas gift exchange between the siblings which gets pretty wild with jokes and laughs. We sing Christmas carols and have a fun game of floor hockey in the shop (dads and uncles against the kids). We enjoy our Easter gatherings when we can hide gift baskets for all our young cousins, and then send them out for an Easter egg hunt. Our families are so incredibly excited to welcome and share these experiences with a new little family member!
Canada has amazing natural beauty and we are lucky to live in easy access to the Rocky Mountains, the prairies, the northern tundra and the ocean. Canada is a very diverse country and very accepting of all races and ethnicities, with a government funded, excellent health care system and great educational opportunities.
We live in the farming community where we both grew up and we love the small town life. It is a quiet, close-knit town and a perfect place to raise our family. Our community has a wonderful education system with great teachers whom we still touch base with from our youth. It has an extremely low crime rate; we would rarely think to lock our vehicles. We live in a lovely two-story home close to a neighborhood playground, in a quiet cul-de-sac. Brenton built our house in the spring of 2015. There are many young families with children in our area.
Our Thoughts On Parenting
We found out a couple of years ago that we are unable to have children biologically. While that was difficult for us, adoption became a natural choice, and we are excited by the opportunities adoption offers.
We believe that raising a child is a great privilege and responsibility. We want to be encouraging and thoughtful parents. We wish to be an example to our child for how to be respectful and compassionate to everyone around us. We are excited to shower our child with lots of kisses and all our love.
Adina will be a stay-at-home mom and Brenton’s job will allow him to be home for lunch as well as in the evenings, so that will provide a lot of bonding and family time with our child. We place high value on education and will guide and encourage our child in whatever he or she should choose, offering every opportunity for a bright future. We plan to inspire our child to share our love for the world’s beauty and other cultures through travel.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our lives. We hope to have the opportunity to discuss your hopes and dreams for your child. Whether or not you choose us as your family, please know that you will be in our thoughts daily and that we respect your difficult choice. Should you choose us, please know that our hearts and arms are ready to embrace this child and he or she will be forever cherished!
