Dear Expectant Mother,
We are Perry and Amy from San Francisco. We are a loving couple, excited to begin a new adventure together as parents. We can’t wait to share our love and lives with a child. We greatly admire the decision you are making, and can only imagine how difficult this choice is for you.
We hope this letter will give you a feel for who we are and what we can offer as parents, and that you will consider us as loving parents for your child. We would appreciate an opportunity to hear about your dreams for your child as well. Regardless of your decision, we wish you the very best in your life journey.
Our Life Together
We met at the Christmas party of a mutual friend in San Francisco in 2011. Perry became nervous as soon as he met Amy and couldn’t take his eyes off of her. Amy, noticing Perry’s glances, conspired to team up with him in a trivia game. The natural teamwork was clearly a sign of great things to come! Within a few weeks we were kissing across the table from each other at Café Claude and eight months later we were happily engaged. We had our wedding in beautiful Sonoma and our honeymoon was a fantastic tour through France and Italy. We feel fortunate to have found each other, and we have been a fun-filled and loving couple ever since.
Over the last several years we have continued to enjoy taking trips together to wonderful places like our national parks, Hawaii and Florida. We hope to continue traveling with our child when he or she is old enough. At home, we enjoy going to concerts and hearing the great musicians that perform in the Bay Area and we enjoy going to sporting events together, particularly to Giants baseball and 49ers football games. At home, we enjoy cooking together and watching a movie or playing a board game. We look forward to spending time with our child reading books, listening to or making music together, and playing at the beach or at the park.
Family & Friends
We are extremely lucky to have a great network of family and friends throughout California. Perry grew up in Northern California. His parents, John & Josephine, who have been married for over 50 years, live about 30 minutes away. The youngest of three, Perry maintains close relationships with his two older sisters, Gina and Carla, who also live nearby with their families.
Amy’s brother David and parents live near each other in Southern California and we make sure we visit there at least three times a year, and they also come to San Francisco to visit us. Amy’s parents, Duane and Maureen, are retired. Together Duane and Maureen love to go on road trips, which often involve a visit to us in San Francisco. When visiting with our nieces, nephews and godchildren we love to do activities such as swimming, going on nature walks, or playing games.
We have both lived in San Francisco since 2000 and we have several great friends nearby whom we see frequently. Both sides of our family celebrate together for the holidays, and friends who are without family nearby are always included. Our parents have loved being grandparents and have been very active in raising their grandchildren, from going to school events to helping with sports teams and school projects. They are excited to have a new child join the family.
About Amy, by Perry
I have been smitten with Amy ever since our first meeting. Amy has an enormous, caring heart and strives to do good for the world every day. The first thing I noticed about her was the passion with which she spoke about her job protecting the environment. She has wonderful positive energy, an incredible “can do” attitude and brings an infectious spirit to all of her passions, which include her roles as scientist, environmental activist, teacher and athlete. I love her more every day.
Amy was born and raised in a beach town in Southern California. She has always had a close relationship with her brother, Dave. Growing up they would spend time together going to concerts and riding their bikes to the beach. Amy learned the value of persistence and hard work from her parents. Amy graduated with a Masters degree in Marine Biology from San Francisco State University. She has worked as the Chief Scientist of a research vessel for the US Geological Survey and now she is a tennis coach for the Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Girls and Boys teams. Amy is a great role model for her students, showing them how to be successful, not just at tennis, but also in their next stage of life as college students and young professionals. She maintains contact with many of her students after they leave school. Her favorite things to do are playing tennis, hiking, watching movies, cooking, and spending time with friends.
Amy has special bonds with each of our nieces, nephews, and godchildren, who often look to her for advice or just to have fun. She loves to play games, do arts and crafts, bake cookies, or go on nature walks with them. I know Amy will be a fantastic mother who will nurture, love, teach and protect her child. She will set an example for respecting others, ourselves and our planet. She will create a fun, warm and loving environment for our child to live in.
About Perry, by Amy
Perry is the funniest, smartest, most loyal, and caring person I know. What I love most about Perry is the way he cares for his family and friends. He forges friendships for life and makes everyone we meet feel special. He is a wonderful listener and communicator. He always maintains a sense of patience and calm. He is my best friend and I am honored to be his wife and partner for life.
Perry grew up in an Italian-American household and values family above all else. Growing up, Perry’s was dedicated to school and activities like sports and music. He excelled in most everything he did and had fun along the way. At home, almost every weekend included a meal that brought the whole family together sharing stories, music, discussion and laughter. That tradition continues in his family to this day. Perry graduated with a degree in Political Sciencebefore studying International Economics and attending Business School. Perry now works for a bank with a focus on lending and investment banking. He also mentors students at our local college, Sonoma State University. Perry loves making music, and still takes piano lessons from his childhood piano teacher, Mrs. Laratta. He also enjoys reading about history, swimming, playing golf, canoeing, watching movies and attending sporting events.
I know Perry will be an amazing father. He loves to teach our nieces, nephews and godchildren songs on the piano, or chords on the guitar. He never forgets a birthday and is active in their lives—going to recitals and games, swimming and pushing them on swings. He will teach our child the importance of determination and persistence in his kind, gentle and thoughtful way, while taking advantage of every opportunity to have fun.
About Our Home
We live in a wonderful, spacious three- bedroom, two-bathroom condominium in a family-friendly area of San Francisco. It is a quiet neighborhood in a great school district that is positioned between two wonderful park areas (Golden Gate Park on one side and the Presidio on the other). Our area is filled with incredible natural beauty. We look forward to taking our child to places like Baker Beach, the Academy of Sciences, the Zoo and the Aquarium. Our neighborhood is filled with young families and we feel extremely fortunate to live in such a safe, family friendly environment.
Amy and I were both raised Catholic and we are currently the godparents to five children. While we are not very active churchgoers, our faith is part of many of our beliefs and values. We value our friends and family above all else and live by the golden rule of treating others with the same kind of love and respect that we would hope to receive in return.
Both of us value education, hard work, the importance of giving back to our community, and kindness to those in need. We hope to pass these values on to our child as we received them from our parents. We look forward to providing our child with all the opportunities to fulfill his or her dreams, through travel and education. We want our child to be happy and self-confident, and know that we will be there for him or her through good times and bad. We look forward to sharing with our child our own passions for science and the environment, music and the arts, current events, and sports.
