Bob and Eliana

Oi! Tudo bem?

“Hello! How are you?” in Brazilian Portuguese

Thank you for considering us as loving adoptive parents for your child. Our hearts and arms are open to welcome your child into our lives. We imagine your decision to explore adoption is not an easy one. We understand that you want to be sure you are doing the right thing for your baby, and we hope that getting to know us a bit through this letter will be the first step in deciding that we are the right fit for you and your child. After reading this letter, we would love the opportunity to speak with you so that we can get to know more about you, as well as answer any questions you may have about our family.

About Us

About UsWe both moved to San Francisco within two years of each other from very different worlds, to find new jobs, life experiences, and ultimately, each other. We met in 2003, but it wasn’t until 2006 that we actually started dating. In 2009, Bob took Eliana to the mountains of Lake Tahoe to propose, and we were married six months later on the island of Cozumel, Mexico with all of our closest family & friends.

We love trips to the beach and camping in the mountains. At home, we love our quiet neighborhood, and are only steps away from the Bay with biking/walking paths in every direction. There are wonderful schools within a short walk that have awesome playgrounds and baseball fields. We have a huge garden/yard in which we grow a lot of our own fruits and vegetables, and our giant apple tree is the envy of the neighborhood!

We are very excited to share with a child the life and home we’ve built, our families (Brazilian and American) and our friends from many different backgrounds. We are ready to raise our child in a loving home and wonderful community that has so much to offer. Eliana is tri-lingual and will ensure our child becomes fluent in at least one foreign language, and Bob loves the great outdoors and looks forward to sharing that with our child.

Meet Eliana— the Brazilian, Teacher & Runner

About ElianaI grew up outside of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in a farming community where my parents grew coffee and raised chickens, ducks and pigs. Growing up, I loved going on horseback rides with my father on the weekends. But my passion from age ten through high school was playing volleyball. In Brazil it is a year round sport and I was usually playing seven days a week!

I’ve always wanted to travel and see as much of the world as possible. I moved to San Francisco in 2000 to learn English and experience the American lifestyle—and here I am, 14 years later! I started my career working in Brazil in Human Resources, and then switched to the marketing field when I moved to San Francisco. Eight years ago I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher. Having recently passed the state teaching credentials, I have just gotten my first job working at a local school. Two of my favorite things in life are my little dog Lua and running (I completed my first half marathon last year!), and I can’t wait to share both with a child.

Both of my parents have passed away within the last eight years, but I’m still very close to my two sisters and brother and extended family in Brazil, whom I visit every year or two. When I go home to Brazil, there are always BBQs, trips to the beach, and very loud conversions—it can be chaotic, but it’s always fun!

Eliana in Bob’s Words: Eliana is always looking to enjoy every moment in life. This is reflected in her love of dancing—I love her carefree excitement and passion! Eliana values her family and friends very highly and makes sure to keep in touch and regularly visit with them all. As a teacher, Eliana is very nurturing with her children—she always finds ways to make them smile. She is the most supportive and loving person in my life. Whether listening about a bad day or just giving me a big hug, she’s always there. I know that the same love and compassion will make her a wonderful mother.

Meet Bob— the Engineer, Fisherman & BBQ Guy

About BobI was born in a very small town in northern Pennsylvania and shortly thereafter my parents, brother, sister and I moved to Gettysburg, PA, where I grew up. As a teenager I spent time working at my family’s bottled water company, fishing with my grandfather, and playing football. My current love of the outdoors can be attributed to many spring fishing trips with my brother, Dad, & Pap.

After high school I studied computer engineering in college. Being really good with math and computers, I landed a job in the technology field right out of college in Boston. I have always been very career-oriented and eventually that brought me out to Northern California (home of Silicon Valley) to start a technology consulting company, which I still run today.

While I worked long hours and traveled a lot at the start of my career, I’ve since settled into a mostly 9-5 routine that does not require travel. This has allowed me much more time to enjoy my hobbies and now also start a family! I usually spend my leisure time outside. I love fly-fishing, and every chance I get I head up to the mountains. I also enjoy golfing with my close friends or throwing BBQ’s in the backyard.

Bob in Eliana’s Words: I love how capable Bob is in finding solutions to problems the people in his life may face. He always brings a positive attitude to every situation, and he puts a lot of thought and effort into trying to make everything wonderful for those he cares about. He is extremely smart and organized—a trait that makes him great at his job! He is exceptionally supportive in any path I want to follow. He always says “anything that makes you happy.” He is a fabulous chef and always wows his family and friends with his meals. Bob loves spending time with his nephews and nieces, whether playing games or teaching them how to fish. I can’t wait to see him sharing all his knowledge and love with our child. He is going to be a great dad.

Our Community & Home

HomeWe live in a small, cozy community just north of San Francisco in Marin County. Our 3-bedroom home has lots of room and a great front and back yard, with a garden that has huge apple, lemon and avocado trees. There are two community pools within steps of our front door that are always filled with the neighborhood children during the summer time. We have some of the top schools in the country; growing up here our child will have a wonderfully active and healthy childhood. The main elementary school is right across the street and has a great brand-new playground, too!

The other member of our family is Lua, our little Yorkshire terrier. She loves playing fetch with all the neighbors’ kids, and we know she will be a wonderful companion for our child.

About Parenting

ParentingBoth of us have always wanted to have children to share our culture and lives with. We look forward to encouraging and supporting our child in taking advantage of all that our community and world has to offer. Eliana is ready to start teaching him or her Portuguese and Spanish right away—not to mention, Samba dancing! Bob is already making sure he has all of the best fishing spots lined up (for a bit later on!). Our families and friends are very supportive of our journey to have children and cannot wait to meet our child.

Eliana is planning on being a stay-at-home mother initially and hopefully one day she will teach at the same school our child attends. Bob loves to cook and makes it a point that both of us sit down to dinner together every night. That is something we wish to share with our child. We are committed to giving our child the healthiest and happiest environment possible to flourish in.

Both of us grew up in Catholic families. While we do not go to church weekly, we plan to expose our child to religion, and ultimately allow our child to pursue whatever path they choose in adulthood.
